Seclusion Salad

Don't you just love band name generators? It's where the name of this came from. I don't even Like salad. unless it has some sort of vinegar dressing. I hate ranch. >__<

This is a blog for my cosplays!! And for some tutorials and stuff I'll keep on here for reference.

Oh, and my cosplay.com account is also under pearlgirl710. I just use that for everything. XDD

— Things I learned from making Fancytier Kanaya

yaexrae:

  • Rolled hem foots, while a little hard to get started, make some of the best fucking hems that I’ve ever made for a minimal financial investment.
  • Embroidery machines make you feel like god.  You are delegating your work to a friendly little robot that will busily stitch away while you can sit on your butt and do whatever.
  • Embroidery digitizing software has a really steep learning curve and is also very expensive.
  • BuzzEdit, while not free, has several useful tools that make me want to buy it in the future.  The slice tools allow you to split up embroidery patterns to work with a 4x6” hoop, and it can also print out to-scale paper templates that help A LOT with getting your pattern placed exactly where you want when rehooping.
  • Pulse Ambassador is free and allows you to do useful shit like resize embroidery patterns and change stitch density.
  • Even if you don’t give a shit about truing your patterns (I sure don’t), cutting fabric on the bias will fuck up your long straight seams and hems if you’re not really careful.
  • Stick-on jewels from the scrapbooking section of Joann’s = instant no-sew bling.
  • Don’t let cute Russian girls in the NY fabric district talk you into buying silk charmeuse unless you’re actually prepared enough to deal with its bullshit.

hahah okay so when i said i was redoing my Disciple I totally meant redoing the design i don’t think mentioned that whoops
but pretty much i’m redoing it so it’s made out of nicer material, so it’ll have a better fit on my body, and so it’s closer to the canon interpretation of her outfit!!
also this way i don’t have to paint my arms aND I”LL BE ABLE TO HUG PEOPLE AHGHGHh that was such a pain last time i could not hug any of my friends AUGHhhh
but i chose like the most annoying way to do the sleeves gah
pretty much i’m making the puffed part seperate from the striped sleeve, so the puff doesn’t deflate, and then attaching both at the armhole within the same seam
it all makes sense in my head i swear
but i decided to be super crazy nitpicky on my cuffs and so pretty much i did a really nice finished cuffline where you can’t see the hemline because the hem is actually sewn in the seam (technique called stich in the ditch) so everything looks invisible and looks really nice
IT WAS SO ANNOYING TO DO THOUGH. STITCHING IN THE DITCH IS AT THE SAME TIME THE MOST RELAXING YET MOST STRESSFUL STITCHING TECHNIQUE EVER INVENTED AUGH you literally sew RIGHT BETWEEN THE CRACK WHERE THE SEAM RUNS and if you go even like half a millimeter over onto the actual cloth you can see it and then you need to unpick it and go back over that section and ughhhhuuu
however now the puffs are all done and i’m moving onto the stripes lordie help me i’m going to have to iron every seam open otherwise it will never lie straight buhghh
it was stressful making the pufs but now i just look at them and it makes me happy and not stressed because they just look SO NICE
i like looking at well done seams they make me happy.

I never post on Tumblr, so I’m hoping my few followers can help me get this word out by reblogging…

I work for a hotel that hosts a major US con every year. I love anime and I go to cons myself, but I am going to be blunt about some of the problems we have and how we deal with them. I don’t know why people lose common sense when attending cons. I realize that most con-goers are young, and probably haven’t traveled alone before. They’re also really excited to go to a con and to see people they’ve only chatted with on line.

But…things have gotten out of hand.

So, please…read this list of Bad Behaviors that I’ve seen over the past three years and please…don’t do them!

1. Completely Trashing Rooms. I have part of the team that has to take pictures of the damages left behind after a con. We will bill you. Sometimes, we won’t even tell you. We’ll just charge it on your credit or debit card. Again, the tiny print in the contract allows us to do this. We take pictures in case you try and dispute the charge with the credit card.

2. Being a Homeless Congoer. These are the people who don’t have a room but figure they can sleep in the lobby, stairwell, hallways, whatever. We’re on to you. We will remove you from the premises. If you are underage, we will still call the police.

3. Being Unable to Pay for Your Room or Food. These are the people who usually make arrangements for rooms with online friends. One friend books the room on a credit card, but when it comes time to settle the bill and the so-called friends are asked to pay their share in cash or come up their own credit card to split…there’s suddenly no money. I feel bad for the person who booked the room, and I’m sorry that you’re not going to make rent, or that your mom is sick, or that you’re a poor college student or whatever. Please don’t stand in the lobby and cry or try to offer me “free art commissions” or the horns off your Homestuck costume. My hotel does not accept those as payment.

4. Having Noise Complaints Lodged Against You. So, that little gathering you decided to have in your room is getting pretty loud and despite two phone calls from the desk asking you to quiet down, you refuse to do so. Guess what, the hotel management is throwing you out. We’ll have our security guards tell you and then the police will escort you from the premises. No, you will not get a refund. No, we don’t care you have nowhere to go. Maybe those two phone calls should’ve clued you into the problems you were causing.

6. Acting Like You Own the Hotel. These are the people who think that since they paid X dollars for their con badge and Y dollars for the room they are entitled to do whatever and whenever they want. Here are some of the most ridiculous (and this is by far not an inclusive list):

a. Taking their clothes off and running down the hall
b. Wearing full Homestuck body paint and jumping in the pool and hot tubs.
c. Screaming “KAWAII!” at random people
d. Camping out in the hotel restaurant and not ordering anything
e. Running through a wedding reception in different a ballroom while shouting “HETALIA!!!”
f. Smashing a brand new TV in one of the rooms
g. Sex in the lobby. While in cosplay.
h. Setting up an “art table” in the middle of the lobby. (She didn’t get an artist alley table and was mad about it…
i. Pulling the fire alarm at 3AM and forcing an evacuation (This person was prosecuted. We caught them on tape)
k. A cosplay-photo shoot that went out of control with photographers physically fighting with each other…in the lobby.

One more note: Our manager is really upset about the amount of clean-up required after the Homestuck cosplayers we had last year. Bathrooms and bathtubs were covered in gray body paint, and the pool and hot tubs had to be drained and cleaned because some of them thought that would be a quick way to get it off. Manager is thinking of putting in the contract with the con that they have to ban Homestuck cosplay to prevent this in the future.

So, as a Homestuck, I beg you! Please, please, don’t do this! Clean up after yourself!

Homestucks and people who use body paint in general, just a PSA on makeup removal; neutrogena makeup removal wipes and cold creams/albolene will do A PERFECTLY FINE JOB OF REMOVING YOUR MAKEUP. Yes it will be easy even if it’s Ben Nye; it’s what I use to get my own body paint off, and that shit comes off like Mulan’s makeup in the Reflection song scene even after i’ve powdered and sealed it. AFTER YOU GET THE MAJORITY OF YOUR MAKEUP OFF you can hop into the shower to get the makeup remover residue off of you.

I”M LIKE HALFWAY THROUGH I THINK
i think the most fun part i’m gonna have with this is breaking apart the curls after i finish setting them so i can get that nice, tousled, just-had-sex-in-a-bush hairstyle that disciple has

SHARE THE WEALTH WOMAN BEFORE I REACH THROUGH THE INTERNET AND HIT YOU

YOU USE A HAIR DRYER AND A CURLING IRON

but you don’t plug the curling iron in you just use it cold

wrap the wig hair around the iron

and then BLAST IT WITH THE FUCKING HAIR DRYER

and then you cool it with the hair dryer

AND THEN YOU UNROLL IT AND YOU HAVE A PERFECT CURL

IT ONLY TAKES LIKE A FUCKING MINUTE

I”M SO DUMB WHY DIDN’T I THINK OF THIS BEFORE

pearlgirl710:

i finished my nepeta wig and my horns are drying right now!!

i think the most difficult part of making horns is to make the second one match the first ughHHHh

my disciple wig has been detangled and is drying

my head hurts and i do not know why ;__;

Speaking of Acen, here are some sad should-be-farther-along-than-I-am progress pictures of Kanaya.  I finished the hood yesterday which was REALLY FRUSTRATING AND DUMB thanks to all the applique (which didn’t end up looking as nice as I hoped) and then hand-sewing a bunch of dumb plastic jewels on each of the four tails.  The inside of the hood is lined with that weird sparkly Joann’s organza so it will look like space!

Today I started up my embroidery machine for the first time ever and mucked around with getting some test patches done for the embroidered panel on the front of the dress.  Rehooping is hard and I still haven’t managed to find a good way to do it with precision. :/

image

Omfg this looks SO GOOD.

And dlfksdlsdf dude, rehooping is the bane of my existence.  I had to rehoop about 30 times with my Signless embroidery, and sometimes it would still take me 10 minutes to get the dang thing lined up.  The best method I could figure out was to embroider the first pattern, leave the hoop in, and lay the little plastic grid guide it came with on top.  Then take some pieces of tape and mark off the top, bottom, left, and right of the design.  Unhoop, and after you rehoop again, lay your grid down to make sure that the tape edges match with where you want your next piece to go next to the part you’ve already embroidered.  After you get 2 or 3 patterns in, it also helps to remember where the edge of your hoop hits the old design.

That stitching looks so damn clean though.  What sort of stitch is that?

Everyone look at this cosplay goddess.

This is who I want to be when I grow up.
